Livermore was sent off for deliberate handball shortly before half-time, only for Sanchez to miss the ensuing penalty.
The London club swept aside 10-man Hull 4-1 with two goals from Alexis Sanchez capping a dominant display that might have eased the minds of some Arsenal fans underwhelmed by their start to the season.
Arsene Wenger admits home is where the hurt is for Arsenal.
Hull had their own attempts on goal, with Abel Hernandez coming close on a counter attack but unable to guide the ball past Petr Cech, but spent the majority of the first half defending the Arsenal attack.
“He is 20 years old, and I think he has talent, he has ambition, he has a big passion for the game and until now he has humility”.
“We are a bit more mature”, Wenger told Sky Sports.
Theo Walcott’s deftly chipped finish 10 minutes into the second half as the forward sprinted onto a perfectly weighted backheel from Alex Iwobi ensured there was to be no stirring comeback from the hosts. “We have a short recovery but everyone looks to have recovered well and we go into the game with the desire to win it again”.
Pre-season signing Xhaka has struggled to break into the Arsenal side since joining from Borussia Monchengladbach, but Wenger was happy to see his long-range strike hit the net.
Jakupović, who has faced criticism for his form so far this season put in a hero performance, saving the attempt in addition to a number of other spectacular stops throughout the match. I know where I want to go and what I want to do.
Phelan questioned the referee’s decision to show Livermore a straight red, saying: “It was a penalty we can’t grumble about that”.
“Look, the positivity comes from us, from our attitude”, he said. And in this case, the heavyweight also has a speed advantage, which will make things even more hard for Hull.
“He’s doing very well”, Wenger said of the former Manchester United assistant manager.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game Wenger said he was surprised that the Chile global took the kick and would be speaking to his players to determine why he had taken responsibility for the penalty.
