Sanders-Clinton Camps Plan To Unite At State Convention in San Antonio
Each state is allotted delegates and superdelegates to the national convention – in Texas there are 251 Democratic delegates, 145 are based on Senate districts, 77 are allocated on statewide vote totals and 29 additional superdelegates are decided at the state convention.

It has come in spite of the press persistently minimizing Sanders by underreporting positive developments inhis campaign (how many of you know who Tulsi Gabbard is?) and by including “superdelegates” in reported delegate counts throughout the primary (many of them pledged support for Clinton before any votes were cast, but the DNC rules and directives state that such delegates do not have a vote and should not be counted until they are polled on the convention floor).
That deadline for Sanders and his supporters comes Tuesday with the final Primary vote in Washington D.C.
Jacob Limon is the state commissioner for the Sanders campaign and he is urging Democrats to be accepting of Bernie supporters and unite as one party.
Sanders told reporters the two plan to talk about the party’s national platform-a blue print of the party’s belief system.
But Limon is also calling on Sanders supporters to collect as many Texas delegates as possible during this week’s convention.
“We have to come together or we are going to let eight years of progress be tossed out the window”, she said.
The convention will offer an opportunity for Sanders supporters to find their place within the party and “be a voice for progressive change”, she said.
Criminal justice reform, reproductive justice and the living wage are other issues Young Democrats are focusing on.
“The TPP is now something we’re talking about, $15 an hour is now something we’re talking about a lot more”, said Limon. Summers wants to see more like-minded Sanders supporters getting involved in local and state politics.
Party leaders in Texas and across the US hope to capitalize on the anti-Trump movement to sway Republicans to vote Democratic in the 2016 Presidential Election. Mauro quickly added, “But that doesn’t mean we’re a battleground state”.
Few think Texas will turn blue in 2016 but Clinton has said she could take the traditionally red state with the help of women and Latino voters. “Unless he figures out a way to do better among women, Hispanics, African-Americans, and Asians, he’s going to have a hard time carrying this state”.
The Republican Party’s presumptive nominee is scheduled to attend a series of private fundraisers that coincide with the Democratic Convention. If they’re able to attract more delegates to San Antonio than Texas Republicans were able to do in Dallas, it could be a sign of what’s to come later this fall.

The convention kicks off Thursday with an opening ceremony and runs through Saturday.
