Demonstrators held signs up as speakers from that home blared the chorus, “We’re in the money”, and threw cash at one of the vehicle as it passed.

Bill Clinton’s comments come just a day after the most contentious Democratic debate yet, in which Sanders hammered Hillary Clinton for her speeches to large banks. They paid $27,653 in federal taxes and $14,843 in real estate taxes.

The Hillary Clinton fundraiser hosted by the Clooneys was a star-studded affair, according to sources inside the event. Co-hosts gave $100,000 per couple.

“If you can’t afford to attend tonight’s event with Secretary Clinton”, Jeff Weaver, Sanders’ campaign manager, said of the ad, “we invite you to join Bernie’s fundraiser for the low price of turning on your television”.

Sanders campaign didn’t immediately respond Friday evening to emailed questions seeking additional details about Sanders’ charitable giving.

Despite hosting the big money gig to show his support for Clinton, George agrees with the protesters, insisting it is “ridiculous” how much money it takes to run a political campaign. “They’re absolutely right. It is an obscene amount of money”, Clooney said in excerpts released on Saturday.

“For people who are sort of in the Democratic establishment to disparage those young people, their sincerity and their knowledge, really is not a very smart strategy to try and build the Democratic Party”, Weaver said. Single tickets cost $33,400.

Since then, Sanders has won additional support at congressional district conventions and Saturday’s state convention, resulting in a few more delegates.

Sanders raised $44 million in donations for his campaign in the month of March alone.
