The kickoff lineup had always been meant to appeal to the party’s restive liberal wing, but that task has become unexpectedly urgent by the trove of 19,000 leaked emails.

Members of Equality Coalition, which supports the beliefs of former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, are arranging to have hundreds of spray bottles filled with water to hand out to protesters.

It was unclear whether the resignation Sunday of party chief Debbie Wasserman Schultz would be enough to unite the party behind Hillary Clinton.

John Podesta said he believes news reports that hacks of the Democratic National Committee’s emails were orchestrated by Russian military intelligence agencies. There appeared to be no consensus among the Sanders delegates of how they would influence the convention and some suggested they may turn their backs on Virginia Sen. I think I read he is an atheist.

Last week, during the GOP convention, Wasserman Schultz used a briefing with reporters to claim that the Republican gathering had brought to the fore an “anti-Semitic environment that Donald Trump embraces” and that the “anti-Semitism that is threaded throughout the Republican Party of late goes straight to the feet of Donald Trump”. Still many delegates, and Sanders himself, said they planned to fall in line, mindful of the Republican alternative.

The FBI on Monday said it’s investigating the hacking of private Democratic National Committee emails, saying agents are working to “determine the nature and scope of the matter”.

For now, party leaders tried to make Wasserman Schultz’s exit as graceful as possible. Trump declared on Twitter: “The Dems Convention is cracking up”.

The actor described Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump as a fascist and said citizens have to turn out to vote to defeat him.

Clinton was due to campaign in Charlotte, North Carolina on Monday.

“A tone of hope and a tone of progress that’s just so different from the fear and the hate and the anti-everything that we saw last week”, she said. President Barack Obama will speak on Wednesday night. Other high-profile speakers include former President Bill Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden. “I think she put the party ahead of herself”.

Pro-Sanders groups are planning to hold demonstrations throughout the week, ensuring that the divisions in the Democratic Party will remain on display even as the party’s top leaders gather to present a unified front against Trump.

The overt hostility following the chairwoman’s decision to resign under pressure from Democrats of all stripes is an embarrassing black eye for the party – and couldn’t come at a worst time, happening as Democrats convene for the first day of their national convention in Philadelphia. He says in contrast, “Everybody is actually showing up at our convention and they’re endorsing Hillary Clinton”.

President Obama called her. The specific content of their conversation remains unknown, but he reportedly offered to give her space to do what at that point they both realized was the right move.

Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook today addressed delegations from Vermont, New Hampshire, and ME – all filled with Sanders delegates, many of whom sported buttons, T-shirts, and other garb supporting the senator – and promised the party would look at “the entire nominating process”.
