Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs told the Burlington Free Press the senator was “well within his rights” to send the message.

Bernie Sanders managed to dodge releasing his personal financial information after filing a 45-day extension ahead of dropping out of the race.
CPI pointed out the irony of Sanders’ ability to avoid disclosing his personal finances.
Sen. Sanders can be a great help to both Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party in the fall.
“On the one hand”, he reporter asked, “who now – beside political voyeurs and snoopy journalists, perhaps – would care about the investments and income of an also-ran presidential candidate who hasn’t been a major factor in Election 2016 for more than two months?” Sanders is also actively supporting her challenger in the Democratic primary for her Florida congressional seat. He will have to file a new disclosure form next year that will reveal his finances for 2016.
Jeff Weaver, who guided Sanders’ surprisingly strong challenge to Clinton, said he was invited by DNC interim chairwoman Donna Brazile to be the “featured guest” on the call, which also included state party leaders.
Jane Sanders said the disclosure would have been very similar to personal finance reports Sanders has filed annually as a US senator. Bernie Sanders has pushed hard for transparency on USA trade and campaign finance, but has been far less aggressive in disclosing his own personal finances.
Sanders filed that Senate disclosure document June 6. This somewhat undercuts his presidential campaign’s argument, made around the same time, that he was too busy campaigning to complete and submit a presidential disclosure covering his finances during early 2016.
The former candidate failed to file the personal financial disclosure before the deadline, and under FEC rules, is no longer obligated to do so now that he is officially out of the race.

“It’s disappointing that a candidate who spent so much time talking about political reform … and was critical of Hillary Clinton’s personal finances, chose not to let us know anything about his own”, Richard Skinner from the Sunlight Foundation told the Center for Public Integrity.
