Sanders holds late-night rally in Loop ahead of Tuesday’s IL primary
This weekend while Donald Trump was running away from protesters in Chicago, Bernie Sanders was reaching out to the citizens of the city, criticizing mayor Rahm Emanuel who continues to let the citizens of Chicago down.

In a statement announcing the banner flyover, Tess Raser, an organizer for Assata’s Daughters demonstrated deep feelings of anger at Mayor Emanuel, Hillary Clinton and Illinois State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez. “But there’s a problem with blaming the Mexicans – they’ve been going home to Mexico since 2010 and we haven’t had an increase in undocumented immigrants”, Clinton told about 400 people at the Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood. “A huge majority of them hate this terrorism as much as we do, and we can’t win the battle for hearts and minds of people over social media without the Muslims in America standing up and saying, ‘This is wrong”.
At a polling site in a church on Chicago’s South Side, 48-year-old auto mechanic Albert Griggs chose Democrat Hillary Clinton and was already looking ahead to a possible contest against Republican Donald Trump in November.
His campaign said he did not have any more events planned in the state. “This is an election about responsibility over resentment, about possibility over protest”. The crowd chanted “We want Ted!” to drown out the woman’s message. “That’s what this whole thing’s about”. His administration’s handling of the police shooting of Laquan McDonald resulted in calls for his resignation. “Based on his disastrous record as mayor of Chicago, I do not want Mayor Emanuel’s endorsement if I win the Democratic nomination”.
As recently as December 2015, Clinton pledged her continued support to Emanuel, but in January, she advocated a DOJ investigation into the McDonald case and stated that Chicagoans would best be in a position to determine if Rahm Emanuel is reforming the city’s broken criminal justice system, per the Huffington Post. The videos were not released until after he won a tough re-election.
Emanuel rarely shows his emotions in public.
Authorities have already charged a rally attendee with assault, disorderly conduct and communicating threats after he was caught on video hitting a man being led out by deputies at the event in Fayetteville.
In a city unfortunately often closely associated with gun violence, Clinton’s campaign is hoping that her staunch anti-gun stance will compensate for any of the negative ramifications of her family’s history with a mayor who is seen as entirely ineffectual and dishonest when it comes to the very people most closely affected by the bullets. “I just asked her if she could help us out, if she could help us keep our jobs in Chicago”. “He has been on protest lines and to me he seems like he’s for the middle class person”.

“I think all of us wish that Chuy would have been the mayor”, Sanders told the crowd, to great applause. But campaign aides to Clinton, who was born in suburban Chicago, said they saw the race getting closer in recent days. “And if you want this country to be made whole, please vote for her”.
