Sanders holds second large Seattle rally before caucuses

To the delight of all in attendance, a bird landed on Bernie Sander’s podium during his speech in Portland on Friday.

Gurdev Singh, 58, of Seattle, said he supports the Vermont senator because “Bernie is a person who is uniting America, not dividing it”.

Voters in Alaska, Washington and Hawaii will participate in Democratic caucuses Saturday with 142 delegates up for grabs.

Sanders has tended to do better in caucus contests, and will compete in three more of them this weekend.

Sanders has drawn big crowds in liberal cities like Seattle nationally. Sanders’ wife, Jane, visited the state before making stops in Alaska this week, and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii resigned her position on the Democratic National Committee so she could endorse Sanders this year. That does not include individual contributions under $200, which makes up the majority of Sanders’ support.

“Seattle turned liberal in 1969 and has never looked back”, Gregory added, noting the city’s last seven mayors have been progressive. People started lining up outside Safeco Field hours ahead of the rally.

“I’d rather the 1 percent not get the tax breaks”, Scott said.

“It’s all grassroots, and it’s really what Seattle is all about, building something from the ground up”, said Bradford, who runs an arts and event space on Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, blocks from Sanders’ campaign office.
