Sanders loyalists ready to quit party as Clinton gets nod

Protesters pushed between the Wells Fargo Center and the press tent, blocking the path for reporters heading to the convention speeches. That’s a historic first. In addition to signs supporting Bernie Sanders, protesters held up signs promoting Palestinian rights, protesting the Trans-Pacific Pipeline, and criticizing Hillary Clinton.

What he said: “In the name of all those who do the work, pay the taxes, raise the kids and play by the rules, in the name of the hard-working Americans who make up our forgotten middle class, I proudly accept your nomination for president of the United States”.

But Sanders closed his keynote speech urging his supporters to get in line.

“Bernie Sanders, who inspired us all, and 15 for the 45th president of the United States and the first one who will be called madam president, Hillary Rodham Clinton”, said Ann Tornberg, chair of the state’s Democratic Party.

And as Trump basks in his own post-convention bounce, Democrats are becoming increasingly skittish about a presidential race in which Clinton is still the favorite, but appears to be facing a tough fight.

But there was also a bittersweet feeling about the night.

Update at 9:39 p.m. ET.

“If you thought you were exhausted of winning after the unbelievable success of last week’s RNC (Republican National Convention), get ready for more“, organizers wrote in an announcement on The_Donald subreddit. “And what is he going to replace this with?”

Clinton tweeted one word after clinching the nomination: “History”.

“This race is going to be won on the ground: in Colorado, and Iowa, and North Carolina, and MI, and Florida, and OH, and Pennsylvania”, he screamed. “As much as it’s going to hurt to do this, we have to”.

The protesters’ qualms-with the Democratic party, and the state of the nation as a whole-should not be delegitimized, though the suspension of a largely meaningless procedural vote was a unusual occasion for such a dramatic protest.

Mikulski was followed by Rep. John Lewis, D-Georgia, the revered civil rights leader; who referenced another “glass ceiling” that was broken with President Barack Obama’s election eight years ago, and Na’ilah Amaru, a Clinton supporter and Iraq veteran who won an online contest to nominate the candidate. “He does not want us to disrupt the convention, and we respected what he asked us to do”.

Carter, a Dallas resident, said he doesn’t fear a Republican Donald Trump presidency.

She put an electrifying cap on the night, appearing by video from NY and declaring, “We just put the biggest crack in that glass ceiling yet”. That includes Lucy Flores, who nabbed a Bernie endorsement for her unsuccessful Democratic primary bid in Nevada’s 4th Congressional district. But she’s not yet ready to vote for her. But she saw her daughter, the late Ann Richards, be elected Texas governor.

They all wore red flowers on their lapels and stood in a semicircle. Fifty-five people were issued citations as they tried to breach police barricades at the edge of the security zone surrounding the convention, police said.

“She isn’t afraid to sit at a table with grieving mothers and bear the full force of our anguish. She doesn’t build walls around her heart”, McBath said.

“The choice is not even close”, Sanders said.

Update at 8:17 p.m. ET. President Barack Obama says experts have attributed the Democratic National Committee hack to the Russians, and he says the Federal Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate. He says they hack both government systems and private systems.

The goal was to make Clinton, perhaps the most famous female politician in the world, yet a public figure her aides claim remains unknown, relatable to voters.

“I’m Bernie or bust”, she said.

Hillary Clinton will not travel to Philadelphia to watch Bill Clinton’s address to the convention, but will instead watch the speech from her home in Chappaqua, New York, aides said.

The walk-out started about 7 p.m.

“The March on Washington was an example of a movement at a high point, and I’d say this is one of those”, Shyla Nelson, a Sanders delegate from Vermont, told BuzzFeed News in an interview.
