Sanders surpasses 2015 fundraising goal with sizable 4Q haul
Bernie Sanders raised more than $33 million during the last three months of 2015 to underwrite his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, his campaign announced Saturday.

Bernie Sanders’ campaign fell short of matching Hillary Clinton’s fourth quarter fundraising total, but touted the number of smaller donors giving to the Vermont senator. Over 760 of Clinton’s donors listed their occupation as CEO or another form of chief executive, according to figures obtained by CNBC in October.
In total, Sanders’ camp says it raised $72.8 million in 2015 and has $28.4 million cash on hand.
Elections in presidential years tend to have a higher voter turnout than off-years, which is generally thought to benefit Democrats.
The campaign’s overall fundraising haul for the previous year totaled $73 million, with more than a million contributors making over 2.5 million donations.
“Thanks to the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have joined together and powered this historic campaign, we are now heading into Iowa and New Hampshire with the resources we need to be successful”, said campaign manager Robby Mook.
Sanders’s standing in the race is likely to hinge on his performance in Iowa, which holds its first-in-the-nation caucuses on February 1.
While Sanders raised money at a greater clip than he had previously, he also managed to spend almost as much as he raised: an estimated $31.7 million – or about 96 percent of the amount he took in during the final quarter of the year.
Clinton’s deep-pocketed repository reflects a heightened confidence in the Democratic front-runner’s electability, having spent the summer months dogged by controversy surrounding her use of a private email server during her time as US secretary of state under President Barack Obama.
After getting a slower start than Clinton on raising money, Sanders has now come close to matching her haul for the primary campaign during the past two fundraising quarters.

“A quarter of the very highest earning taxpayers, those earning more than $250 million per year on average, pay a federal income tax rate of less than 20 percent”. Sanders spent about $45 million in 2015.
