Sanders to meet with Clinton Tuesday

Loads of commentators have recently argued that Bernie Sanders needs to drop out of the presidential primary for the good of the Democratic Party, to help Hillary Clinton, or to teach his followers a valuable lesson of political engagement.

She talked in general terms about principles that Democrats in both bitterly feuding camps presumably believe in: greater economic equality, a higher minimum wage and “getting unaccountable money out of politics”. Obama was to meet with Sanders on Thursday, a White House statement said.

Vice President Joe Biden also quietly endorsed Mrs Clinton in a speech on Thursday night, saying “God willing”, the next president would be Mrs Clinton.

Mr Sanders emerged from the White House meeting subdued and indicated he had got the message.

In the endorsement video, Obama recalled the party unity that followed his prolonged primary battle against Clinton in 2008. As Obama put in his video endorsement of Clinton, her campaign will “build upon the progress we’ve made” under the Obama administration.

She capped off the speech, tying the policies from Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to Donald Trump’s behavior.

While polling shows many young voters are open to voting for Clinton, shoring up their support will be essential for Clinton’s campaign.
