Sanders trailing Clinton but more honest: SC poll

RENO, Nev. (AP) – Bernie Sanders is pronouncing himself startled by the ferocity of Hillary Clinton’s attempts to take him down, saying she’s coming “unraveled” by his progress in the Democratic presidential campaign.

Sanders, for his part, spoke about an array of issues during a similarly short speech and did not mention Clinton. “Essentially, we are in this together”.

“There are 340 days until the next president takes office, so that is plenty of time”, Clinton said.

“I am not a single issue candidate and I do not believe we live in a single issue country”, she said, repeating the sentiment at the St. Paul event.

South Carolina State’s student center, which houses a bowling center and dining area, has quotes on walls from prominent black leaders, including President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, singer Michael Jackson and educator Booker T. Washington.

Sanders, after talking about the “real unemployment rate” and “greed”, localized his overtures to Obama by noting the way the 2008 recession decimated Nevada’s housing and employment market.

Clinton’s new message suggests a Sanders presidency wouldn’t bring about change in areas beyond the economy, an argument Clinton has only started making recently. This state was decimated.

Neither candidate directly acknowledged each other in their remarks nor did the candidates chat after the church service, according to their spokesmen. Clinton rhetorically asked the crowd.

Clinton was accompanied by Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, the civil rights icon.

The race for the Democratic Party’s presidential nominatoin is facing an unexpected road block in Nevada: foreclosures.

African Americans are the largest second largest racial minority in the state at 9.1 percent, after Latinos.

“I want you to not only tell people what we’re against, what we’re fighting against, what we’re going to stop, I want you to tell them what we’re for”, Clinton said.

This comes just a week from the Democratic Caucus in the state.
