Sanders wins ME caucuses, Rubio takes Puerto Rico — CNN projects

“I am the one person that she does not want to run against”, he said of Clinton on Saturday.

“I suppose they can trust the corporations who have destroyed Flint”. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen.

Sanders picked up his eighth win of the nomination process by besting Clinton in the Democratic presidential caucuses in ME – giving him at least 14 delegates to Clinton’s six in the Pine Tree State – on top of taking Nebraska and Kansas over the weekend.

The debate in Flint, which is suffering a water contamination and public health crisis, came as Sanders has struggled to slow Clinton’s march to the presidential nomination.

In a CNN poll last month, Clinton tops Trump 52 percent to 44 percent in the general election. “The last time I checked as of last night, Donald Trump had received 3.6 million votes, which is a good number”. These contests favor Clinton, given that Sanders has done better in smaller, more predominantly white states, while Clinton has done better in bigger, more diverse states. It was an expected win for the self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist candidate, who hails from nearby Vermont and enjoys strong backing in the region.

Both candidates called on the Republican governor of Michigan, Rick Snyder, to resign.

Bernie Sanders needed to change the direction of the 2016 primary season.

Sanders opened the debate, broadcast on CNN, by saying he was “shattered” by the sight of families, including children, being “poisoned” by the toxic water in Flint. “That is clearly not what this country should be about”.

“I believe the governor of this state should understand that his dereliction of duty was irresponsible”.

Snyder, writing on Twitter, blamed the crisis on “a failure of government and all levels that could be described as a massive error of bureaucracy”. The remaining Republican candidates are also scheduled to debate this week – Thursday at the University of Miami in Florida. “He said that white people don’t understand what it is like in those communities”. Jeff Weaver, the campaign manager for the Bernie Sanders campaign, said his campaign would continue to shine light on the issue after the MI primary.

Sanders slammed Clinton for her support in the 1990s of the North American Free Trade Agreement, which her husband signed while president, and for her late opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

That prompted a feisty exchange. She hit Sanders for opposing legislation in 2009 to bail out the auto industry. “He voted against the money that ended up saving the auto industry”. She always has. I think the challenge and the press from Sanders at times has been interesting to watch.

Sanders says he opposed the bailout out of Wall Street.

Mr. Sanders said the essence of all religions was, ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ “I am very proud to be Jewish, and being Jewish is so much of what I am”, he said, rejecting the criticism that he was muted about his religious identity.

The seventh Democratic debate stood in stark contrast to the GOP debate in Michigan: It focused heavily on the Flint situation and it was civil.
