The family of Sandra Bland, who died while in police custody past year, has settled its wrongful death lawsuit against Texas authorities. “Bland’s arrest and death, which was ruled a suicide, came amid heightened national scrutiny of police and their dealings with black suspects, especially individuals who were killed by officers or who died in police custody”.
The county’s autopsy report concluded that Bland hung herself with a white trash bag, tied with a slip knot.
Waller County jail will also be undergoing several procedure changes at the jail as part of the settlement for the death of Sandra Bland while she was in their care.
Encinia was initially placed on administrative for violating procedures and the department’s courtesy policy during the traffic stop. However, Encinia was sacked three months after the Public Safety Director promised he would terminate the trooper’s employment.
Darrell Jordan, one of five special prosecutors appointed to oversee the investigation into Bland’s death spoke with Breitbart Texas following the announcement of the indictment.
Her mother, Geneva Reed-Veal, has been vocal about police brutality in the United States.
The circumstances surrounding Bland’s death have also been questioned.
The Post’s Wesley Lowery sits down with Jeffrey Ian Ross, a criminologist with the University of Baltimore, to deconstruct some of the critical moments of Sandra Bland’s arrest during a traffic stop in Texas.
The Waller County sheriff’s office said an agreement had been reached but was not yet final. Texas State Trooper Brian Encinia threatened to use a stun gun on Bland after the confrontation became heated.
The details of the settlement were hammered out Wednesday night, Bland family attorney Cannon Lambert told CNN. Bland eventually steps out of the vehicle, and Encinia orders her to the side of the road.
” ‘To prevent future document falsifications, Waller County jail will use automated electronic sensors to ensure accurate and timely cell checks'”.
The family of an IL woman who was found dead in a Texas jail cell has settled a civil suit against the authorities. A dashcam video showed him shouting at Bland and failing to answer her when she asked numerous times why she was being arrested.

Encinia has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial in the criminal case.
