Sandra Bland prosecutor ‘begging’ to talk to her family
Muhammad is calling for an economic boycott and a federal investigation of Waller County, which was where Bland was arrested in July during a contentious traffic stop. “Here was a young lady who was much, much more than a hashtag”.

“The grand jury decided that even though her intake documents reportedly stated that she had previously been suicidal following a miscarriage, deputies assigned to watch her are in no way responsible for not doing so-because her life did not matter”, she writes, citing various grand juries across the country who failed to bring charges against police using excessive force against black women.
The Chicago-area woman was pulled over July 10 for making an improper lane change. In dashboard camera video that became yet another flashpoint in the national controversy over racial bias by police, Trooper Brian Encinia shouts at Bland for refusing to get out of the vehicle or put out her cigarette and threatens at one point to jolt her with his Taser. Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw has said Encinia – who in June completed a year-long probationary stint as a new trooper and has been on administrative duty since Bland’s death – violated internal policies of professionalism and courtesy. Bland, 28, was found dead in her cell at the Waller County Jail after being arrested during a routine traffic stop. It appeared Bland had hanged herself with a plastic garbage bag accessible in her cell.
Bland’s family and supporters have questioned the official suicide ruling, noting that she was about to start a new career. “This case is big for the citizens of Waller County”. Bland’s family says they have no faith in a grand jury that’s considering criminal indictm…
Houston Chronicle reporter Sinjin Smith has been reporting on Bland’s case.
“After presenting all the evidence as it relates to the death of Sandra Bland, the grand jury did not return an indictment”, Jordan, one of the five appointed prosecutors, said after the grand jury met Monday for about 11 hours. Still, they said they want answers and called the entire process a sham.
The lack of an indictment led to Sandra Bland being the top trending topic on Twitter in the United States. Attorney Larry Rogers acknowledged grand juries usually meet in secret, but that the process means lawyers for Bland’s family haven’t been able to examine the findings of a Texas Rangers investigation into her death because the report is grand jury evidence. They also believe that the assault allegation by Encinia, which was used to take Bland into custody, was falsified. “He flat out lied and said he de-escalated the situation”. As Cannon Lambert, one of the attorneys representing the Bland family, stated “if he [officer Encinia] was going to charged, you’d think he’d be charged already”.

The news was not received well by activists, who took to the Internet to advance more conspiracy theories about Bland’s death and a cover-up by police. “We are still looking at an empty chair at the table and we are left with the very hard task of visiting her at her final resting place to let her know she’s still in our hearts this holiday season”, Sharon Cooper, sister, said.
