Sandwiches sold at Oklahoma Starbucks being pulled from shelves over Listeria risk

The sandwiches are sold in Starbucks stores in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma.

The recalled sandwiches are 6-ounce sausage, egg, cheddar cheese English muffin sandwiches, according to a recall notice on the Food and Drug Administration website. after its in-house testing procedures detected Listeria monocytogenes on a contact surface in its production plant.

“As soon as Starbucks was informed of this potential issue, the impacted product was removed from the 250 stores that potentially received it”, the FDA said in its notice.

Progressive Gourmet is located at 330 Ballardvale St.in Wilmington.

Listeria can cause serious bacterial infections and is sometimes fatal.

The product comes in a clear plastic labeled package marked with Best Before: 07-AUG-2016 on the top.

No illnesses have been reported due to this recall and the company says it’s working closely with the FDA and the Massachusetts Department of Health to continue to investigate the source of the contamination.

Starbucks-goers who’ve already bought the sandwiches in affected states can return them at the coffee shop where they made the purchase. Healthy individuals can experience “headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea”, according to Food Safety News.

The recall affects 250 stores in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma. They can also contact the company with any questions by calling 1-800-224-7630 weekdays between 6 a.m. 2 p.m.
