Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who was released from the Yerwada Central Jail (YCJ) in Pune on Thursday morning after serving a sentence for illegal possession of AK-47 rifle, said the feeling of being “free” is “the most amazing”, but it is yet to sink in.

“I have been waiting for 23 years to get a taste of freedom”. Sanjay (Dutt) has done his time and he is looking fitter and better than before.
A sense of dramatics crept in as he turned back and saluted the tri-colour atop the prison building and bent to touch the soil in full media glare.
“There is no easy walk to freedom”.
“If I know Sanjay Dutt since Vidhata and Khalnayak. he will come out this time with much more maturity and sense of responsibility as a human being and also as a bigger star onscreen than ever”.
He was sentenced to six years in jail in 2007; he served 18 months but then was out on bail, fighting the conviction until a court in March 2013 ordered him back to jail in Pune.
Social activists fiercely opposed Dutt’s release eight months ahead of schedule, claiming he was being given special treatment because of his celebrity status. It also alleges that the actor enjoyed preferential treatment in jail. He was granted a remission of 144 days for good behaviour.
After visiting Siddhivinayak Temple and his mother Nargis Dutt’s grave, Munnabhai met the press, where he said his father Sunil Dutt’s only fight was to see his son free. Fans too were seen eagerly awaiting Dutt’s return. Mr Bhatt recalled how he and Dutt began their respective careers together and delivered several hits. Also, film maker Umesh Shukla is keen to work with Dutt and also has the script ready.
