Sanjay Dutt has come out as hero: Shilpa Shetty

The actor has served a term of 42 months in Yerwada as part of his five-year sentence after being convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case. While speculations were on about which film the actor will begin shooting once out of jail, news sources suggest that the actor already shot for the Sanjay Dutt biopic being made by his good friend Rajkumar Hirani.

After 23 years in and out of prison, Sanjay Dutt is free man now.

He was sentenced to undergo five years rigorous imprisonment for illegal possession of arms during the March 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

On the criticism over being granted remission and multiple furloughs,”It’s a misconception (that he got preferential treatment for leaves)”.

Activists have fiercely opposed Dutt’s release eight months ahead of schedule, claiming he was being given special treatment because of his celebrity status.

“If I know Sanjay Dutt since Vidhata and Khalnayak, he will come out this time with much more maturity and sense of responsibility as a human being and also as a bigger star onscreen than ever”, Mr Ghai said. “I’m proud to be an Indian”, said Sanjay, adding he was missing his father – a former Congress MP – the most. “And I wish him a peaceful life”.

Pradeep Bhalekar, a Mumbai social activist, filed the petition in Bombay High Court, seeking its intervention in cancelling the jail authorities’ “wrong and illegal” decision to grant the actor a remission on his sentence. Mr Bhatt recalled how he and Dutt began their respective careers together and delivered several hits.

Near his Bandra home, there was a contingent of drummers who played a deafening welcome tune for Dutt.

Sanjay said his wife suffered more than him. “I’ve been convicted as a normal man. Even Supreme Court has stated that I’ve been convicted for Arms Act and cleared from blast hearings”.
