Sano walks off Twins with single, 6-5 over Indians

He gave up a leadoff double to Danny Santana, then later in the inning missed badly on an 0-2 pitch to Miguel Sano, and the Minnesota third baseman slammed a ground-rule double to straightaway center. Dozier has picked it up a bit after a slow start, raising his line to.220/.304/.390 with three homers, 10 RBI, 10 runs scored and two steals in 20 games on the year.

The Twins tied the score in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run double by Brian Dozier off Indians starter Danny Salazar.

“I thought I was going to play right field”, he said, “because nobody told me I could play third base”.

Cleveland Indians pitcher Josh Tomlin warms his hand after giving up a walk to Minnesota Twins’ Joe Mauer in the first inning.

“Every time he takes one of those out-of-control swings, Bruno is yelling at him”, Twins manager Paul Molitor said of Arcia.

Following yet another rough road trip that saw the Minnesota Twins go 1-4, the team returned to Target Field to not only celebrate Prince but also face the Cleveland Indians and hopefully dance their way to their sixth win.

Santana started Opening Day for Minnesota and is 0-1 with a 3.15 ERA in four starts. The Twins had won the previous two games on walk-off hits.

It wasn’t pretty for the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night, but they count just the same in the standings.

Arcia smashed a 1-2 fastball from Indians right-hander Zach McAllister off the facing of the second deck in right field for his third homer and second game-winning home run this season.

“He had a nice game for me”, Ryan said. The problem for Anderson, who’s allowed 15 runs in 14 innings his past three starts, has been location. He gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out five in 4 2/3. “It’s very impressive to watch, when that ball gets put in play, you just don’t think there’s going to be much of a chance”.

Cleveland outfielder Michael Brantley returned to the starting lineup for the first time this season after undergoing shoulder surgery in the offseason. Nolasco gave up a run and five hits with seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings, dropping this season’s numbers to a 0.98 WHIP and.224 OBA.

“I kind of like the idea of Carlos leading off, getting on base the way he can”, Francona said before the game.

Then Michael Brantley had an excellent at-bat against the southpaw, spoiling some pitches, spitting on others, because hitting what would have been a rather routine sacrifice fly to medium-deep left field.

The team had high hopes for Anderson coming into the season and he could have been in position to make a bigger contribution after starter Carlos Carrasco went down with a hamstring injury.

RHP Jose Berrios was recalled from Triple-A Rochester.

A two-time Twins minor league pitcher of the year, Berrios turns 22 on May 27.
