Santa Clara Cops Threaten Boycott of 49ers Games over Colin Kaepernick

A letter from the Santa Clara Police Officers Association sent to the 49ers was obtained Friday by KNTV-TV, the NBC affiliate in San Jose.

“The board of directors of the Santa Clara Police Officer’s Association has a duty to protect its members and work to make all of their working environments free of harassing behavior”, the letter reads. One being the lack of a suitable option to lead the 49ers this season other than Kaepernick and the other is the recent events surrounding the actions of Kaepernick.

NFL fans turned out in force on Twitter on Friday to heap scorn on Colin Kaepernick and two other players who refused to stand during the playing of the US national anthem in a second week of pre-game protests, but some fellow players offered support.

“I realize that men and women of the military go out and sacrifice their lives and put themselves in harm’s way for my freedom of speech, and my freedoms in this country, and my freedom to take a seat or take a knee”, Kaepernick said.

“I’ve been very blessed to be in this position and be able to make the kind of money I do”, Kaepernick said.

The pair were met with scattered boos during the anthem, but Kaepernick was met with significantly more boos in his snap of the game.

While the National Football League was waiting to provide an official response to Kaepernick’s choice of apparel until after the completion of 49ers’ preseason game versus San Diego on Thursday night, the quarterback took to social media to defend himself.

Kaepernick posted a statement to Instagram, writing that he wore the socks in the past because of “rogue cops that are allowed to hold positions in police departments”.

“I’m not anti-America. I love America”. We have a lot of people that are oppressed, we have a lot of people that aren’t treated equally, aren’t given equal opportunities.

“I pray that he stays on the team”, Reid said.

“There is police brutality”, Kaepernick noted at a press availability last Sunday. After the game, he said, “It’s something I plan to keep doing until I feel like justice is being served”. He told reporters after the contest that he would donate $1 million of his salary to organizations of communities in need, per USA Today’s Josh Peters.

Nate Boyer, a former Green Beret and NFL longsnapper, showed his support for Colin Kaepernick on Thursday after meeting with the 49ers QB – and even standing next to him during the national anthem.
