Shoup worked at the operations department for the air defense center, now known as NORAD, so the call must have come as a bit of a surprise.

A few scattered showers are expected late into the evening, followed by a dry but cloudy Christmas day with a high of 46 degrees. In the valleys and along the coast, Alpine and Fallbrook topped the lists at 2.81 and 1.48 inches, respectively.

Only an elite few knew the number.

While in New York City Patch makes a bad decision which could change Christmas forever after he takes a job at a toy company. However you sure don’t need to worry for “Santa is Real” and you can track his progress on NORAD or Google Santa Tracker.

If you ever wanted to know what a building looks like at Santa’s place, it looks a little like a hangar at Johnson County Executive Airport – just far cooler.

Thanks to modern technology, people can now track Santa Claus as he makes his way around the globe, with the North American Aerospace Defense Command [NORAD] and Google both providing online tracking services. They also spend Christmas Eve serving as Santa trackers.

And it all began with that phone call.

Michelle Obama – in Hawaii for the holidays with President Obama and the rest of the first family – took calls Thursday from surprised children (and their parents) who called in.

“My Santa suit is a very special magical suit”, said Santa, reached at his workshop in the North Pole for an exclusive interview.

That’s when he realized two things: Something had gone wrong with his phone, and the question was genuine. Relieved, she informed him that she would be leaving him food by her fireplace, plus treats for his reindeer as well.

NORAD has been keeping tabs on Santa Claus for 60 years. Africa and Europe are next, followed by North America and South America.

The call center, in a training building, was staffed for 23 hours and Christmas Eve.

NORAD took over the responsibility of tracking Santa when it was formed in 1958. This year, the satellites’ infrared sensors have zeroed in on, you guessed it, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer’s bright red nose. He added that Alaska is usually Santa’s last stop before heading home.

Trackers worldwide can speak with a live phone operator to inquire as to Santa’s whereabouts by dialing the toll-free number 1-877-Hi-NORAD (1-877-446-6723) or by sending an email to [email protected]. “Of course, it’s more sophisticated tech today than it was 60 years ago”.

While the site includes many old classics, like the always amusing Santa phone call greetings and coding challenges, it also includes a few new items as well.
