“We are getting all of the preparations finalized for December 24”, said Stacey Knott, media specialist for the Track Santa Operations Center. I said, “Yeah, I’d love to”.
“Santa can go faster than a cheetah”, Emma said. Rather than disappoint the kids, commanders told them they indeed knew where Santa was.
For many, the first time they ever hear about NORAD is this time of year, when the military organization grabs the spotlight and awakens the child in us all with updates-passed along via social media or the local TV weatherman-about Santa’s travels starting Christmas Eve.
According to NORAD, the Santa Tracker started in 1955 after Santa’s phone number was accidentally listed in a catalog as the number to NORAD’s predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD).
Weather-permitting, children in the United Kingdom may catch an early glimpse of “Santa’s sleigh” around 5.20pm on Christmas Eve when the International Space Station (ISS), whose crew includes English astronaut Major Tim Peake, passes over the Britain.
“He was shaking with excitement when I gave him the boots, and his parents thought it was great”, said Santa, with a jolly old laugh. Sgt. Kyle Kelly with NORAD is anxiously awaiting the jump start of holiday mission.
Mother laid the big book of “The Night Before Christmas” on the end of my bed. He never said it, but Dad always left hanging the suggestion that Santa still remembered how I had treated him.
There are innumerable smartphone apps that will create a “Santa” call to your favorite kid. The reindeer have kept me going where I need to go.
You can also use NASA’s Spot the Station tool to work out when exactly you can see the ISS, based on the location of your nearest town/city. I wish you safe and happy travelling during you Christmas journey and please make sure Rudolph keeps you high above the clouds wherever possible because there are a lot insane people round the world these days! We told them about hearing the big truck in the front yard and they agreed that Santa didn’t always come in his sleigh to deliver toys to good boys and girls.
The truth is, my childhood Santa wasn’t like anyone else’s, so whether or not I believe is kind of a tricky question.
“Leave it for me on Christmas Eve, by the milk and cookies”. They know they won’t get every single thing they ask for. Volunteers will be answering calls from an estimated 125,000 children around the globe looking for Santa’s whereabouts. The program also is sponsored by corporate contributors so that taxpayer dollars aren’t spent on the program.
