Donald Trump responds at Thursday’s Republican debate to Marco Rubio’s criticism of his hands, and the inference.
Rubio said he didn’t understand how a tall guy like Trump had such small hands. “This man is – as I told you, I mean, he’s injected a level of vulgarity into the political discourse that we’ve never seen”. Calling him a “phony” and a “fraud”, former party standard-bearer Romney said Trump’s policies – like the deportation of undocumented migrants and banning Muslims from entering the United States – would make the world less safe. Are they small hands? “I guarantee there’s no problem”.
Rubio, who struggled to escape a barrage of insults from Trump throughout the debate, defended his own past support for comprehensive reform and vowed to pursue similar policies in the future.
“The Donald” struck back at Mitt Romney on Thursday, criticizing the former GOP Presidential Nominee for seeking his endorsement. “He should have beaten President Obama very easily”, Trump said.
Sen. Ted Cruz has particular reasons to be optimistic on Saturday as only party members can participate in the contests and the closed format traditionally hasn’t been so great for Trump. They also worry that Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric on immigration could permanently unravel the GOP’s efforts over the years to reach out to Latinos and other minorities.
Mr Cruz said he would prefer Mr Trump to either of the Democratic contenders, Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, describing the latter as a “socialist”.
Polls show Clinton and Trump are likely to win the bulk of the delegates and extend their leads.
Going into the weekend round, Donald Trump leads in the GOP race with 329 delegates.
“He was a failed candidate”.
The Ohio governor, who came in second in New Hampshire by running on a moderate message, hasn’t had a single victory in the 2016 election, and some Republicans are accusing Kasich of taking away valuable support from Rubio.
