CBS has cast Person of Interest star Sarah Shahi as their leading lady in Drew, the network’s drama pilot based on the Nancy Drew character from the classic mystery book series.

Written by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan and directed by James Strong, Drew will be a contemporary take on the beloved teen sleuth, a character immortalized by a series of mystery novels which began publishing in the 1930s. Abrams said the show would likely end after its 13 episode summer season during the Television Critics Association winter previews, but CBS president Glenn Geller rebutted that a final decision won’t be made until the season airs.

“Graceland’s” Vanessa Ferlito will play Nancy’s former NYPD partner George in the pilot; “ER” alum Anthony Edwards will portray Nancy’s father, Carson, who graduated at the top of his class at Yale Law; and Felix Solis will appear as Lt. Ford, an NYPD lieutenant who finds Nancy’s confidence and willingness to stand up and disagree with him unnerving. Shahi, who has been cast in the title role, is Iranian and Spanish. “[She will] not [be] Caucasian”.

Nancy Drew has been adapted for film many times and for the small screen three times.

CBS has officially found their new Nancy Drew.

As both of the shows are on the same network, there are questions whether Shahi would be able to juggle commitments to both shows. Curiously, TVLine has learned that the actress’ deal puts Drew in first position ahead of a potential – yet extremely unlikely – sixth season of POI.
