Sardar Mehtab steps down as KP governor
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has accepted resignation of Khyber Pakhtonkhwa Sardar Mehtab Abbassi and sent it to the president for approval, ARY News reported.

Speaking to media today, Abbasi confirmed that he resigned as K-P governor to participate in 2018 general elections.
Earlier, Nawaz Sharif had urged Sardar Mehtab Abbasi to give another thought to the decision of resignation.
PML-N sources told DawnNews that Sardar Mehtab Khan stepped down to pursue a role in parliamentary politics.
Finding the legal profession not to his liking, he joined his father Sardar Muhammad Nawaz Khan’s clothing business in Rawalpindi Saddar.
In the past, he served as the Chief Minister of NWFP province, later named as KP, from 1997 to 1999 and as Railways Minister in 2008.
Sardar Mehtab was elected for the first time in 1985 as an independent candidate of the provincial assembly.
During his tenure, he invested heavily in area of Circle Bakote, a relatively poor and underdeveloped area.
Sources in the ruling PML-N informed The Nation that during the meeting with the PM Sardar Mehtab also discussed the party’s choices of his replacement and a few names figured in the meeting including party’s provincial chief Pir Sabir Shah, Adviser to PM Engineer Amir Muqam and a few retired army generals.
In the 2008 general elections, Abbasi had been elected member of National Assembly from NA-17 constituency of Abbottabad.

Abbasi is politically affiliated with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and hails from Abbotabad.
