Our favorite Canadian import was invited to Friday night’s state dinner, which hosted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The first lady often chooses outfits from designers representing the nation being honored at the White House dinners.

Malia and Sasha Obama have never not represented themselves as poised, lovely young ladies, but last night, the First Daughters showed up for their first-ever State Dinner at the White House looking gorgeous, graceful, and totally grown-up. Malia was a proud big sister as she looked on at Sasha having a giggly, excited conversation with the star of Deadpool and gave her a huge thumbs up.
Sasha just did something any of us could only dream about.
Trudeau was a child when his father served as Canada’s prime minister.
“It’s also touching to meet Malia and Sasha, who are here at their first State Dinner”, he said, referencing his father, former Canadian Prime Minisher Pierre Trudeau. Also, really pretty dresses.
“When I was first elected to this office, Malia was just 10 and Sasha was 7”.
And my, how they have grown.
Both first daughters attend the highly-selective Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. where Malia will graduate this year before heading to college. “And I’m starting to choke up.” .

“I admire you very much, both of you, for your extraordinary strength and your grace”, Trudeau continued before going on to say that their childhood and their experiences, which very few children and teenagers share, will serve to give them “strength and wisdom beyond your years for the rest of your life”.
