Sasha Vujacic, Knicks agree to 1-year deal for veteran’s minimum

The Knicks are bringing back another player from last season’s team after reaching an agreement with veteran guard Sasha Vujacic, league sources said.

The deal is worth the veteran’s minimum of $1.41 million.

After spending three of the previous four seasons overseas, Vujacic returned to the National Basketball Association to play for the Knicks last season on a one-year deal.

The Knicks wanted to re-sign Vujacic, in part, because of his familiarity with the club’s triangle offense. Vujacic is one of just five players returning from last season’s squad. He received significant playing time under both Derek Fisher and Kurt Rambis, who’d previously associated with him during the Los Angeles Lakers’ title runs in 2009 and 2010.

Vujacic, 32, had a poor beginning last season when he started the first seven games for injured Arron Afflalo, and fans soured on him as he became immersed in a shooting slump. In 25 starts, Vujacic shot 38 percent from three and scored 7.8 points. A team can carry a maximum of 15 players on the roster.

The other four guards on the roster are Derrick Rose, Courtney Lee, Brandon Jennings and Justin Holiday.
