Saturday’s Major League Baseball rundown: Yankees youngsters steal show in slugfest win over Rays
Corey Dickerson hit a three-run homer off Luis Severino, Evan Longoria added a three-run double against Luis Cessa to cap a six-run fourth inning and the Tampa Bay Rays rolled to a 12-3 rout Sunday of the New York Yankees, who started eight players 26 years old or younger for the first time in 49 years. Girardi said Teixeira was banged up and could use consecutive days off. RHP Bryan Mitchell (left big toe), on the DL since spring training, allowed three runs and five hits in 2 1/3 innings for Tampa at Daytona on Saturday night in his second rehab start.

Austin became the fourth Yankee to homer in his first career at-bat when he drove a 2-2 fastball from Matt Andriese (6-4) over the right field wall and into the first row of the seats before the ball bounced back on to the field.
Judge drove a 1-2 changeup 136 meters, a shot off the railing above a sports bar in center field and into the netting above Monument Park.
The crowd gave them loud ovations during their trots and again when they headed to their positions for the second inning.
On a humid, 95-degree afternoon and on the same day Alex Rodriguez was officially released, the future came fast for the Yankees. More to come, one assumes.
Miller continued to try to make things interesting, smashing a solo homer in the sixth to make it 6-4, but Didi Gregoius extended the lead to 8-4 with a two run homer in the seventh, the Yankees fifth of the game. He is 7-5 on the season.
But it was another strong outing from RHP Jake Odorizzi that seemed more important as he continued his impressive post-All-Star turnaround, improving to 4-0 with a 1.65 ERA since the break. The 14 hits were the most ever allowed by Hamels (12-4), who also walked three.
Twins 5, Royals 3: Brian Dozier hit his 25th home run of the season and the 100th of his career, to lead Tyler Duffey and Minnesota to the win.
Home run! Not exactly authoritative, but it’s an opposite-field liner, so that’s impressive. Austin and judge each finished the game with two hits in four at-bats.
Austin and Judge joined John Miller, Andy Phillips and NY assistant hitting coach Marcus Thames as the only players to homer in their first at-bats for the Yankees. “When Tyler went up there and got down 0-2 really quick, he battled and had a great at-bat and hit one out”.
“I think we’re all excited because we know these two as people”, Hall of Famer and former Yankees great Reggie Jackson said.
“It’s not only the guys who have been called up here”, Judge said.
“I don’t think you can expect a homer every day”.
NY still has a little power left in their bats in this “white flag” season.
Miller touched up Tanaka for another home run in the sixth inning.
“There’s a lot of excitement that they have, and probably rightfully so”, Rays manager Kevin Cash said.
Sunday afternoon in Major League Baseball action from Yankees Stadium, the Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees will be finishing out their weekend series.

Severino was initially demoted Wednesday after struggling through a start Tuesday in Boston, but when Nathan Eovaldi went on the disabled list, the Yankees brought him back to start. Austin of course, was the 13th round draft pick of the New York Yankees way back in 2010.
