Saudi Arabia hospital fire: 25 killed and over 100 injured
A picture taken on December 24, 2015, shows damage inside the Jazan General Hospital after a blaze broke out in the intensive care unit and the maternity department in Saudi Arabia’s southern Jizan province. The fire-which one witness says spread through the hospital in only minutes-occurred in the city of Jazan, one of the poorest areas in the country.

Alsum said early indications were that the blaze was an electrical fire. Meanwhile, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Thursday cabled the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz expressing condolences and solace on victims of the fire that erupted at a public hospital in the southwestern Saudi city Jazan, leaving 25 people dead and 123 injured.
“We could hear the women screaming”, said the man, who was not named.
Health Ministry spokesman Faisal Al-Zahrani said that 84 people were hospitalized, including eight patients from the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Ahmed Al Sahli, Director of Health Affairs in the region, told Al Arabiya that many people had been able to escape easily because the doors were open and safety equipment was in place.
Jazan is the focus of a $20 billion plan to develop the local economy by building an industrial complex that produces and uses oil products for manufacturing.
At least 31 killed and more than 100 injured in blaze in Jizan, which began on floor housing ICU and maternity ward. Photos released by the state-run Saudi Press Agency showed that the blaze had badly damaged some of the rooms in the hospital.

Jazan has also been caught up in Saudi Arabia’s military engagement against Houthi rebels in Yemen this year.
