Saudi Arabia’s King Salman vowed on Saturday to find out what caused a crane collapse that killed 107 people at Mecca’s Grand Mosque ahead of the annual hajj pilgrimage.

The crane was among several being used to expand the area around the mosque to accommodate the millions of Muslims who travel to worship there during the pilgrimage.

Akram, 32, was not near his parents when the crane struck the building.

This was not the first tragedy to strike Makkah pilgrims, though the hajj has been almost incident-free in recent years. These have included transport networks and other infrastructure to facilitate movement of the huge numbers of people who perform Haj.
