King Salman arrived three days ago in the city and Nawaz Sharif is the first foreign dignitary with whom he had a meeting during Ramazan in Makkah.
In a royal decree on the cabinet appointments, the Saudi king named Majed bin Abdullah Al-Huqail as the new housing minister. Saudi Foreign Ministry spokesman, Osama Nugali announced Saud’s death on his official Twitter feed, saying, “The eye tears, the heart saddens”.
“It’s clearly a statement that appeals to a more pragmatic, practical paradigm, going away from the traditional bureaucratic approach to problem-solving, especially in sectors relating to services”, said Hossein Shobokshi, a businessman and newspaper columnist.
Earlier, the Prime Minister performed Umra last night and offered special prayers for peace, progress and prosperity in the country.
Culture and Information Minister Adel Al Turaifi was general manager of the Al Arabiya news channel and Economy and Planning Minister Adel Fakieh, also previously labour minister, had served as chairman of food company Savola.
Suwailem had held the post since late April when he took over from Salman’s son Prince Mohammed bin Salman as part of a major shake-up which saw the king’s son named Deputy Crown Prince and second in line to the throne.
