The Saudi interior ministry has announced that security forces have killed two suspected fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group and arrested another three during raids. Images broadcast on state TV and on local news websites show security forces retrieving weapons and bomb-making material from an underground hideout and from inside a residence.

The Interior Ministry said those targeted in the raid belonged to an affiliate of the extremist Islamic State group linked to an attack in Abha, 560 kilometers (350 miles) south of Mecca.

The bomber targeted a mosque inside a police compound, killing 15 people, 11 of them security personnel.

In May, ISIL claimed in an online statement that it was responsible for a deadly attack on a mosque in Qatif, a Shia-majority city in the eastern part of the country.
