Saw 8 finds its directors, will shoot this year

Lionsgate is being so secretive about the making of SAW: LEGACY, the eighth installment in the SAW franchise, that nearly everything we’re finding out about it so far is being gleaned from the websites of unions and corporations involved with the project rather than official announcements from the studio. But a lot can happen in 6 years, including (apparently) audiences developing the ability to act like that movie never happened.

As Bloody Disgusting first revealed, Aussie filmmakers Michael and Peter Spierig, whose credits include “Daybreakers” and “Predestination”, will be at the helm of the new picture. The most recent entry, 2010’s Saw: The Final Chapter, no longer seems to be a final chapter at all. That will coincide with the tradition of releasing the Saw films just in time for Halloween, when those movies used to literally come out every year.

James Wan and Leigh Whannell – the respective director and screenwriter of the original Saw – are on board Saw: Legacy as executive producers. “That was definitely a concern. I look at who I am and I go, ‘That’s not me.’ I made that film, and I love it, and I made it for a very calculated objective, which was to get people’s attention”. Comments Off on The Spierig Brothers will direct “SAW: LEGACY”!
