Say hello to the new Starbucks; wine, craft beer, mac ‘n’ cheese

The coffee franchise will start offering an “Evenings” menu that features wine and craft beer today at two dozen new locations across the country, according to USA Today.

Starbucks is stepping up efforts to introduce an expanded “Evenings” menu by selling wine, beer and small plates, including bacon-wrapped dates and truffle mac “n” cheese.

That’s the plan, at least, as Starbucks announced that it intends to expand its Evenings program to over 2,000 of its more than 12,000 locations. Service begins around 4 p.m.

First rolled out in Seattle in 2010, the Evenings program was developed to fill the need for a casual meeting environment after the workday. “There aren’t that many locations to go within the night the place you’ll be able to go very relaxed, very informal”. The company says that stores that sell alcohol still remain quiet enough for its normal patrons. “It’s not loud. You can actually have a small group and hear yourself talk”. They are served with dishes that are not typically sold at Starbucks.

Evenings stores will be designed to “provide an inviting atmosphere for unwinding in the evening”. Sonic has tested beer and wine sales to patrons eating at the fast food chains patio at some locations. “We always make sure we have community tables where people can sit together and have a glass of wine and have a conversation”.
