SC senators to hold hearing on transgender bill

Lee Bright has watched as gays won more rights through legislation and the courts. I’ve about had enough of this.

“I mean, years ago we kept talking about tolerance, tolerance, and tolerance, and now they want men who claim to be women to be able to go into bathrooms with children. It’s disappointing whenever a few people who have the ability to get a lot of attention, jump up, scream and yell, and everybody thinks the sky is falling and we run like chicken little”, said Angel.

A SC bill limiting transgender people’s bathroom choices is up for discussion a week after Republican Gov. Nikki Haley and state business leaders called the proposal unnecessary.

Even if the House were to pass the bill this year, it would be highly unlikely to pass the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party-controlled Senate, and Gov. Mark Dayton has promised to veto it. In fact, it only mirrors the more-recognized portions of the law, which is also known as a “bathroom bill”, while also specifically targeting transgender students.

It would ban transgender people from using public bathrooms, showers or changing rooms of their choice.

However, they’ve found opponents where they might have once found allies.

The rocker and former Beatle said in a statement Wednesday that he has cancelled his June 18 concert in Cary, North Carolina, in opposition to the passage of the bill.

Several female testifiers told of feeling uncomfortable when a transgender woman used the women’s restroom at work or another public place, or of conflict about transgender girls having access to changing facilities at schools. But even if it manages to advance to the Senate floor, Sen.

“Plenty of folks across the South are hurting – they feel their religious beliefs or heritage is being attacked”. Bright said his proposal mimics a law passed last month in North Carolina. We had no time to get feedback. Lourie has vowed to defeat the bill.

The president of the state Chamber of Commerce, Ted Pitts, said senators need to focus on “real issues” such as the state’s crumbling roadways. The hearing clogged hallways in the Senate office building, since there were only seats for about a fourth of those who wanted to speak or listen to testimony.

“All across the state of Minnesota, there are parents showing up in school districts today that are concerned about the privacy and safety of children at their own schools”, Scott said. “Do people carry their birth certificates to the bathroom with them”, he said.

Conservative lawmakers have loved these kind of laws because they appeal to voters without costing much.

I can’t really understand why a good looking man like Bruce Jenner wanted to turn himself into a freakish looking woman like Caitlyn, and while Bruce did sort of make it everyone’s business by transitioning on global television, I don’t really care.

“To make discrimination legal is an atrocity”, said Greg Green who opposes the bill.

North Carolina has already seen serious fallout from HB2, with PayPal dropping plans to expand in the state and the NCAA saying it might not hold future tournaments there.

“It’s a tremendous violation of privacy”, said Malissa Burnette, a Columbia attorney and SC Equality board member, of North Carolina’s HB2. Smaller cities in the South have also grown rapidly as people come from elsewhere. According to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), transsexuals/transgender people are people who transition or want to transition from one sex to another. They are finding out we’re not different. “And we pay the same taxes”.
