Scalabrine: If Klay Thompson Not 100 Percent, Celtics Will Beat Warriors

Last season, the Golden State Warriors emerged as the most impressive team in NBA, engineering a style of basketball that many thought would not even work out.

The Warriors already are without forward Harrison Barnes, who is sidelined with an ankle injury. A stacked Golden State team may prevent Curry from reaching the heights Jordan did as an individual. Thompson suffered an ankle injury in the Warriors’ win over the Pacers Tuesday, and has been recovering, but remains a game-time decision going into Friday’s matchup.

Not only are the Warriors undefeated this season, going back to last season they have won 27 straight games, just six wins away from the Lakers record of 33 straight.

Golden State’s success extends well beyond the Splash Brothers, though – we haven’t even mentioned Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala – and while the Warriors have played in a handful of close games, their overwhelming talent and excellent chemistry have helped them remain unblemished.

If any team can beat the Warriors at their own game, it might be the Celtics. “I think coaches sense it. We as players sense it. It feels good right now and we are in a good state”.

That means Jared Sullinger needs to have one of those high, double-digit rebound games that he’s capable of. COVERS POWER RANKINGS: Warriors (-19.5) + Celtics (-8.5) + home court (-3.0) = Celtics +8.0 WHAT CAPPERS SAY: “The oddsmakers simply can not catch up with this team, who is a remarkable 12-4 ATS its L16 game despite laying at least 5.5 points in all of them”. All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson outscored his MVP teammate Steph Curry in Indy, going for 39 including eight three-pointers in the arcade-like first half.

Maybe it’s Kerr’s rotation usage (dutifully continued by interim coach Luke Walton in Kerr’s extended absence), or maybe it’s the sensory deprivation chambers in downtown San Francisco that the Warriors so love to frequent.

“It was one of those nights where I got a lot of great looks”, Thompson said. Boston is coming off a 105-100 victory over the Bulls on Wednesday night and is now 13-9 on the season. It’ll also be fun to see David Lee go head to head against Golden State. He also shot 10 for 16 from 3-point range while shooting 62 percent from the field. There’s a tendency to drift and wonder and ponder a bigger picture involving a defending champion off to a record start and comprised of players who aren’t yet in their prime and anchored by the best shooter of his generation.
