SCarolina governor defends immigrants in response to Obama

After Dylann Roof, an apparent white supremacist often pictured with the flag, shot and killed nine members of a predominantly black church in Charleston, however, Haley reconsidered.

Even DeMint, who has a reputation as an ideological purist who challenges conservatives for not being conservative enough, piled Haley high with praise.

Haley said the pro-life issue “isn’t partisan” and she added that it should not be a political issue. “I couldn’t look my son or daughter in the face and justify that flag flying anymore”. Remember when the Confederate flag flew in front of the SC statehouse?

“You’ve heard me say many times I wear heels”.

Haley hasn’t always been so self-assured. Shortly after her election, Haley appointed veteran union avoidance lawyer Catherine Templeton as Secretary of the State’s Department of Labor.

Haley is in her second four-year term serving as the first female and first minority governor of sc.

In 2009, Haley launched another unlikely political campaign, this time for the governor’s office.

She has not yet endorsed a candidate in the 2016 cycle. She strongly denied those claims. Former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal’s February 24, 2009 response to Obama’s first major address to Congress – in the wake of a awful hurricane that clobbered his state – was so weak and tentative that it almost destroyed Jindal’s career. “I walked out of there thinking, I’ve got to do this”, she told Vogue in 2012. Katrina Shealy (R) told NBC News. I think she’s a great spokesman for our party.

As NBC noted, Haley was investigated for an ethical violation that went to the state’s Supreme Court. She is favored by 71 percent of Republicans and 53 percent of Independents. And the state’s Department of Revenue was breached, leading to more than 6 million Social Security numbers belonging to South Carolinians being stolen.

“So, there’s a lot of little pieces of advice like that that I’ve given her, but at the end of the day, we just said be yourself, communicate to the country, represent our party as well as you have been, and you’ll be just fine”.

She started her first job at age 13, keeping the books for her family’s clothing store. And the decision surrounding the removal of the Confederate flag catapulted her right back into the national discussion previous year.

Haley has remained popular in SC, weathering such crises as a storm last October that cost almost $1.5 billion in damages – a once-i-1,000-years event, the governor said. At 43, she’s the youngest governor in America.

Haley has been mum on any future plans and has called Tuesday’s speech an address, rather than a response to the President’s address.

“It’s one moment in a long series of moments for Gov. Haley”, he said. “Having a good performance helps but more importantly, Nikki Haley doesn’t need this State of the Union address in order to be included in the VP conversation”. The governor faults Obama for nagging wage stagnation, a massive national debt, a health care program “that has made insurance less affordable”, and “chaotic unrest in many of our cities”.

The speech offers her the opportunity to articulate the Republican Party’s message at a time when most of the attention is on almost a dozen candidates brawling for the GOP presidential nomination.

“She’s deserving of very careful consideration by our ultimate nominee”, he said.

Here are five things you should know about Haley as you watch her Tuesday night.

Republicans are promoting this as an “address”, not a GOP response, in an effort to change the comparisons between their speech and bully pulpit Obama has.
