Schefter: Signs piling up against Chip Kelly return to Philadelphia

“I just think Chip Kelly if given a choice might be comfortable elsewhere and we’ll see if that shakes out”. ESPN’s Adam Schefter went on Sirius XM on Tuesday and said that “momentum and signs” seemed to be “piling up against a Chip Kelly return to Philadelphia” (h/t to Jimmy Kempski of The Philly Voice).

“I’ll tell you, I don’t think I’d be worse than 4-6.”

One of the biggest problems with the Eagles over the last five years, one of the reasons I’ve found nearly every team since the 2009 squad to be an unlikable bunch is that the team just doesn’t get the city. “It was an ugly scene”, Schefter said.

You know what’s always a great idea to do when you’re a football player on a collapsing team that’s just suffered two let downs to mediocre opponents? And if they go into Detroit on Thanksgiving Day and win, we’ll have a different conversation next week. I think he’s exhausted of the situation there. I certainly would include him in my question mark of coaches, which we’ll be tracking in January… With the Eagles winning 20 games and a division title in his first two seasons, however, it was never viewed as a serious possibility.

Kelly had a 46-7 record in four seasons coaching at Oregon.

CHIP: Will he go back to college?

In the offseason, Kelly was given the reins to the Eagles roster and he gave it a complete makeover, trading star running back LeSean McCoy, and quarterback Nick Foles for Sam Bradford who has really struggled this season.

The Eagles were 19-9 in Chip Kelly’s first 28 regular-season games.

It’s good to know that out of everything that’s gone on this season, in Lane Johnson’s mind the thing that stands out the most is that the fans booed his team after they played a downright lousy game with their season on the line.
