That home run by Werth would be the only run that Jimenez would give up.

The right-handed starter fielded the ball between his legs with his back to the plate and calmly lobbed the ball to first baseman Ryan Zimmerman for the out.

Moore wound up allowing a hit and three walks in 8 2/3 innings on a career-high 133 pitches (88 strikes).

“As a starting pitcher, that’s one of the games that you dream of because it gets you going”.

Scherzer struck out the next two Orioles batters and then retired J.J. Hardy on a flyout to end the inning. The bid was broken up by rookie Corey Seager, who on his bobblehead night blooped a single to right field on Moore’s 133rd pitch – the most thrown by any pitcher in Major League Baseball this season.

The Royals (66-61) have won 10 of their past 11 games and have also claimed their sixth straight series win.

A flawless sixth inning concluded Jimenez’s tidy 90-pitch performance. He is 14-7 with a 2.92 ERA and 227 strikeouts this year.

Joe Panik homered and drove in two runs for the Giants, who snapped a four-game losing streak and dropped the Dodgers’ lead in the National League West to two games. He cooled off after posting a 1.62 ERA in his past six starts. Harper legged out a one-out single and stole second base for his 18th steal, tying a career high, but Jimenez did not break. The Royals have won 15 of 18 to pull within four games of the second AL wild-card spot. It was only his second big league start. When several Cardinals chased the ball, Wainwright covered third. Brandon Moss cracked his 24th and 25th homers for St. Louis.

Daniel Murphy drove in a run with an RBI double in the Nationals’ half of the eight and Bryce Harper doubled to bring in two more and make it a 4-0 game.

PIRATES 3, BREWERS 2: Andrew McCutchen hit a home run and a pair of RBI singles, including the tiebreaker in the 10th inning as Pittsburgh stopped a nine-game skid at Miller Park in Milwaukee. No other player has done so in multiple games.

Frazier lined a single down the left-field line in the ninth off of Mariners reliever Nick Vincent (3-4).

Adam Eaton led off the ninth with a bloop single off Nick Vincent (3-4) and went to second on Tim Anderson’s sacrifice. It is his third game this season pitching at least seven innings and holding batters to a batting average at or below.100.

Matt Wisler took a no-hitter into the seventh inning as Atlanta earned a four-game split with Arizona. Wisler (5-11) allowed a run and two hits. He took a shutout in the sixth, surrendering RBI singles by Robbie Grossman and Eduardo Escobar over his last two innings.

MINNEAPOLIS – James McCann recorded his first career four-hit day as Detroit completed a three-game series sweep of Minnesota. He was out of the lineup on July 21 in NY with back spasms.
