Turner would get his revenge later in the game with a two-run single to expand the Nationals lead to 9-6 in the eighth inning.

Trea Turner went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs and Max Scherzer won his fourth start in a row as the Washington Nationals scored five runs in the third inning and beat the Atlanta Braves 6-4 on Monday. Snitker said Perez is unlikely to throw more than 100 pitches Tuesday.

Swanson was the first Atlanta player since Paul Runge in 1985 to hit an inside-the-park homer for his first career homer.

Former No. 1 overall pick Dansby Swanson hit his first career big-league home run on Tuesday.

“We were going to take him out after the sixth, cause they had some risky hitters coming up and they were starting to hit the ball pretty well and Scherzer said, ‘Hey, man, no, I want to go back out there'”.

“We just sometimes can’t stay away from that crooked number in one inning”, Atlanta interim manager Brian Snitker said. “Then as I kept going, judging by the reaction in the dugout and the crowd, I thought ‘Maybe I’ll get an inside-the-parker.’ I just kept going”.

Gonzalez gave up six runs in three innings plus two batters but also did not figure in the decision.

After Rendon’s grand slam and Zimmerman’s solo home run in the third gave him a two-run cushion, Gonzalez set about squandering it. Tyler Flowers singled and Gordon Beckham doubling, marking the end of Gonzalez’s night after 85 pitches to 16 batters.

The Braves took an early lead in the second when Jace Peterson doubled to left field, scoring Nick Markakis.

OF Ender Inciarte singled twice to extend his hitting streak to 17 games, two shy of his career high. The 23-year-old rookie has already recorded two multi-hit games in September and has multiple hits in nine of his last 13 games.

Braves: RHP Matt Wisler (sore side) played catch a day after he missed his scheduled start.

Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo entered Tuesday night’s game against the Brewers with staggeringly good numbers against starter Wily Peralta. He has a 2.45 ERA in that span.

Nationals: Washington recalled INF Wilmer Difo and RHP Lucas Giolito from Triple-A Syracuse. He has been on the disabled list since August 22, retroactive to August 21, with right elbow soreness and could pitch Wednesday, according to manager Dusty Baker … Weber allowed five runs in three innings as the Braves had a six-game winning streak snapped. Washington RHP Stephen Strasburg (15-4, 3.59) threw on the flat ground in the outfield before the game.
