Schlafly dead at 92, leaves legacy of social conservatism
Phyllis carved a place for the conservative movement in the Republican Party with her bestselling work, A Choice Not an Echo (1964), and then established the permanency of the movement with STOP ERA beginning in the summer of 1972. The book, which sold three million copies, chronicled the history of the Republican National Convention and is credited for helping conservative Sen. Barry Goldwater of Arizona. The conservative activist, reports the Huffington Post, has devoted her life to fighting for what she believes in, beginning her political career by 1952 and ending it only upon her death.

In recent years, Schlafly’s focus turned to what she perceived to be lost USA sovereignty as a result of runaway internationalism.
She told LifeNews: “Phyllis will be missed yet her legacy will live on through my generation and in the young women who are fearless in the fight for the lives of the preborn and their mothers on their campuses and in their workplaces and communities”.
“It is his obligation and his sole obligation”. Although much maligned by feminists, gays and other elements of the progressive coalition, she was a powerful force in American politics, and she leaves a big hole to be filled on the American Right.
The Eagle Forum has about 80,000 members, CBS News reported.
“I’ve taught literally millions of people how to participate in self-government”, Schlafly said.
“What that amendment would do is to make all laws sex-neutral”. My daughters thought this was the craziest thing they ever heard. “Now, that was an unsalable proposition”. The amendment had 30 out of the required 38 states on board when Schlafly entered the fray; it was defeated in 1982.
“Phyllis Schlafly untiringly advanced a pro-life vision for America, one in which the unique contribution of women to the world – giving life- was respected and supported in law”. It is hard to find a conservative who has disagreed with her on a major issue and still remained viable. Her oldest son was gay, yet she was a willing partner in singer Anita Bryant’s homophobic campaign of the 1970s. “And by that time, the children were well along in school or college”.

“Phyllis Schlafly spent an astounding 70 years in public service of her fellow Americans”, said the Eagle Forum in a statement. Though some students and faculty silently protested by getting up from their seats and turning their backs to the stage, Schlafly called it “a happy day”. She put herself through Washington University by firing weapons as an ammunition factory tester and later earned a master’s degree in political science from Radcliffe.
