Scholes attacks Anthony Martial after Champions League draw
“We keep saying defensively they’re sound and I think they are, but their forward play just wasn’t good enough tonight”.

Scholes did not hold back in his scathing assessment of 19-year-old Martial after he claimed the striker was “not bothered” by whether or not he scores for United.
Martial scored four goals in his first for matches for United but only has one in 11 since then, and Scholes says the club should consider going out and buying a proper centre-forward.
“He doesn’t look bothered if he misses a chance”, Scholes said on BT Sport after United’s 0-0 draw with PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday. “When we play great teams, great champions, I have to see how our team show the tactics – how we react if we lose a goal, and how we react if we score a goal”.
“[Martial has] still got a lot to learn goalscoring wise”.
“You look at these teams across Europe, your Bayern Munichs, your Barcelonas it’s the players up front who make the difference”.
The 22-year-old academy graduate was starting his fourth game in a row for United and looked to be the sharpest player and most likely source of a goal on a night when Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay were passengers. I’m not 100 percent convinced – I think Manchester City and Arsenal would have to struggle with injuries and form. “He isn’t a centre forward who lives for goals”, said Scholes.

“Maybe they need to go into the transfer market in January for one of them”. “It’s just wonderful how they are still in with a shout of qualifying and flying high in the Premier League”. Van Gaal’s men have only scored six goals in their last eight matches in all competitions and the Dutchman admitted: “in spite of my changes, it did not improve”, per United’s official website.
