Scholes: Man Utd still boring; Martial has lot to learn

The draw left United second in Group B with a tricky final game away to leaders Wolfsburg.

“You look at these teams across Europe, your Barcas and your Bayerns”.

But after a promising start in which he scored four goals in four games, he has struggled to maintain his form.

Here’s a look at Manchester United’s top young forwards – those 22 years old and under, including first-teamers as well as those climbing through the youth system – including a break down of each striker’s skill set, development areas and outlook.

“The last three or four weeks he’s had a real youth and directness, and a willingness to get in the box and try and score goals”, Scholes said of Lingard while appearing on BT Sport.

Former United midfielder Scholes does not believe that Martial is a goal-scoring centre-forward and feels that the Red Devils should think about bolstering their attacking options in the January transfer window.

“He’s (Martial) still got a lot to learn goalscoring wise”.

Scholes did not hold back in his scathing assessment of 19-year-old Martial after he claimed the striker was “not bothered” by whether or not he scores for United. As a centre forward, all you live for is scoring goals, all you want to do is score goals.

The former England man also pointed out that there is no use in being good defensively if they can’t take advantage and score goals at the other end. It is right to make criticism – and Scholes made the right criticism – but it will improve his mind.

“I think his impact for us was incredible”, Ranieri said.

Manchester United earned their 12th clean sheet of the season last night against PSV Eindhoven, but it was also for the fifth time this term that they played out a 0-0 stalemate.
