Wayne Voorhees, Matt Kroupa and Kyle Rider were each taken to the hospital with significant injuries, Adams 12 Five Star Schools says.
“It’s my understanding they were all able to get out on their own except for the [deceased] driver who remains on scene”, said Farr, during an impromptu press conference at DIA. The bus was transporting about 28 members of the Legacy High School football team and had circled back to the airport when it crashed, injuring about 18 passengers. The tragic accident claimed the life of the female whose was driving the bus when the vehicle crashed into a concrete ramp support pillar after veering off of a roadway.
Students at a suburban Denver high school where a school bus driver was killed and high school football players and staffers injured Sunday resumed classes Monday.
Passengers on the bus were injured during the crash, but they were able to escape through an “emergency exit”. The Post reported that five patients in fair condition were treated at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Denver Health Medical Center said it had five patients from the accident, two in critical condition, two in serious condition and one in fair condition.
The bus was from Legacy High School in Broomfield, Colo., KUSA-TV reported.
The driver’s name and age have not been released. Police interviewed the football players about the crash. A crisis team was there to help students.
School officials told The Denver Post that some of this week’s homecoming events were being postponed, including a “Powderpuff” football game that was planned for Monday evening.
The school, located about 19 miles north of Denver, is part of the Adams 12 Five Star Schools district.
