Eighteen Legacy High School athletes and coaches were injured and one killed after the school bus they were traveling in crashed at the Denver International Airport (DIA), according to the Denver Channel. “We don’t know why”, Denver police Sgt. Mike Farr said.

By late Sunday, three adult staff members remained in the hospital, and numerous 15 students who were injured had been released to their parents, school district officials said.

Police have not released any information on the cause of the crash, which occurred at 4:08 p.m.

The bus had just picked up team members from Legacy High School of suburban Denver Sunday afternoon and was circling back to the airport when it crashed.

A Polk County school bus was involved in a crash Tuesday morning in Lakeland, sending four people, including three students, to the hospital. “It is unexpected”, said an official from the Denver Fire Department. The school bus driver was cited for violating right of way.

GoFundMe pages have been set up for the family of Kari Chopper, the driver killed in the crash, as well as Legacy’s coaches.

Legacy High School staff, students, and parents were shaken up after the bus accident. Police interviewed the football players about the crash.

They remain in the hospital at this time.

Wayne Voorhees, Matt Kroupa and Kyle Rider were each taken to the hospital with significant injuries, Adams 12 Five Star Schools says.
