School bus driver killed, others injured in crash at airport

The transport smashed into a concrete support for an overpass outside the airport.

The bus was from Legacy High School in Broomfield, Colo., KUSA-TV reported.

Denver police say several people were taken to a hospital in critical condition after a school bus veered off a roadway Denver International Airport and crashed into a concrete wall, the Denver Post reported (http://dpo.st/2c2v5gl). According to Denver Police Department Sergeant Mike Farr, there were 20 individuals rushed to hospitals. As the buses were leaving, one mysteriously turned around, heading back toward Terminal East’s passenger pickup area.

Two passengers were in critical condition and two were in serious condition at Denver Health Medical Center.

Children’s Hospital Colorado received another five patients, and all appear to be in stable condition, stated an administrator after speaking with Denver7 News.

The crash happened at 4:08 p.m. MT, airport spokesman Heath Montgomery said.

The Denver Post reports that uninjured students gathered with parents Sunday evening inside the airport. Police interviewed the football players about the crash.

The Adams 12 Five Star schools is a public district that serves suburbs north of Denver, including Broomfield, Federal Heights, Northglenn, Thornton and Westminster. “We don’t know why”, he said.
