School district: Student in police custody after threats

Shortly after noon, police arrested and questioned a male student of the school who admitted he was responsible for the online posting of the threat and that there was no bomb in the school.

It was the second safety scare of the day at the school, according to DeNuzzo. “We have assigned a detective to investigate the threat at the school and will take appropriate action should a suspect be identified”, Sheriff Robert Snaza said.

It was not immediately clear what the alleged comments were.

The principal chose to be cautious and not evacuate the school for the bomb threat into a neighborhood that was an active crime scene for a shooting, Chandler said.

According to Investigator P.M Little with the Richlands Police, a written threat “that made reference to an explosive” was discovered on a wall in the school on Thursday, October 1.

Kaple said the girl, a junior, was seen on surveillance tape and was taken into custody by deputies.

Students at Belle Haven Elementary in Dayton have been safely evacuated to St. Timothy Missionary Baptist Church on Free Pike following a bomb threat, confirmed Jill Moberley, spokeswoman for Dayton Public Schools.

Mike Grimes, bomb squad specialist at Butler County Sheriff’s Office, said in a release the caller indicated that the schools contained explosives and the call didn’t last long. Our students and staff are safe. The incident appears to be a misinterpretation of a comment made earlier in the day.

“Parents were getting texts from their kids who were saying all these things about a bomb threat, a gun threat, and we didn’t know what was true and what was just rumors”, she said.

“As a parent, I am really anxious about the safety issues and the communication between the school and parents”, McCoy said. Parents of all other athletes are asked to contact their child to be informed of individual situations, she said.

Rachele McCoy, who has a 13-year-old son who attends Garfield Elementary in the Hamilton school district, said she was concerned about the flurry of threat activity that has gone on the past week.
