School ‘Lock-Out’ in Sterling Area

The sheriff’s office says that the shooting happened at about 8:30 a.m.at east Cornell Drive and North Duke Drive.

Students were reportedly waiting for a bus to go to school.

At this time, it is unclear why he was shot or how many shots were fired during the incident. Witnesses reported that two or three possible suspects fled the area on foot after the shooting.

Law enforcement officials are looking for suspects and more information. Several other schools near the situation are in a “lock out” mode, where parents and caregivers are told not to drop off students because of the situation.

Under the lock-out, exterior doors are locked, but schools are operating under normal conditions.

The sheriff’s office advised that the school system lockdown the schools temporarily while officers respond to the incident.
