Schumer on Republican Obamacare repeal: it’s their responsibility

Schumer and his fellow Democratic senators will aggressively target eight of President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks, which he refers to as “rigged”.

The Democratic leader said Mr Trump’s tweet “bragging” about the 800 jobs he saved at the Carrier plant in IN “doesn’t solve the underlying problem”.

Last year, McConnell led a Republican blockade against even considering Merrick Garland, President Obama’s nominee to fill the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat, securing the vacancy for Trump. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), chosen for attorney general; and Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), selected to run the Office of Management and Budget.

“Less health care and it will cost more”, Schumer said of a world without Obamacare in the Politico Playbook interview. “We’ll hold him accountable to that”, Schumer said.

The transition team also is confident that Democrats can’t sustain their attempts to slow-walk confirmations.

“Donald Trump said when he campaigned he wouldn’t cut Medicare and Social Security, but he turns around and nominates as his HHS secretary a guy who made his career on cutting Medicare and Medicaid”.

Of concern was the scheduling of simultaneous confirmation hearings for nominees, making it hard for members who serve on multiple committees to attend, and also making it hard for nominations to be ready for a floor vote by Inauguration Day.

The biggest sign of his forgetting, Schumer said, have been his Cabinet selections.

The “consequences” of Republicans blocking President Obama’s nominee for nearly one year “are going to be down the road”, Schumer said.

McConnell’s staff members are highlighting that there was bipartisan cooperation when President Obama’s nominees faced confirmation hearings.

“The ACA extended affordable health care to 30 million Americans”.

Say what you will about the Republicans’ rather transparent obstruction of Garland, the arguments they chose to forward won’t make them hypocrites come January. Cosgrove considered that and said he couldn’t get out of his Cleveland Clinic commitment, the source said.

The New York Democrat promised his party would not “be a rubber stamp” for Trump.

Perhaps President-elect Trump’s tweets are a little more planned than you think.

Spicer was asked on This Week about Trump’s Twitter statement December 22 that the U.S.

He also chided Trump for conducting foreign policy in 140-character bites. “With all due respect, America can not afford a Twitter presidency. We have real challenges and we need to get real things done”.

Republicans, for their part, are envisioning an accelerated series of hearings and votes to have many of Trump’s picks installed by the time he is inaugurated or shortly after that. “The bottom line is, the president-elect ran as a change agent….” It’s a good use of modern media. As a candidate, Trump called for an immediate review of USA cyberdefenses and vulnerabilities, though he has not detailed specific steps or outlined any changes in the way he expects the White House to use technology for day-to-day work.

“President-elect Trump comes in with a lot of political capital, and that means something”, he said. “So that tells me that Chuck wants to get something done”. Additionally, they argue, Trump’s outright refusal to release his tax returns, breaking with decades of precedent, makes the finances of his cabinet choices all the more relevant.
