Schweinsteiger suffers thigh strain on Germany duty

Manchester United star Bastian Schweinsteiger met friends and family of Berkely victim Nick Schuster tonight.

Schweinsteiger, who has featured in all 13 of United’s matches this season, suffered the injury in the World Cup winners’ final training session before Thursday night’s Dublin match.

Ireland head into the game at the Aviva Stadium, knowing that only a victory will do in order to keep their dream of automatic qualification for next summer’s European Championship alive, although they could still qualify via the play-offs regardless of the result.

In June, in a Facebook post containing that same photo, Schweinsteiger said he felt “very sad” when he heard of the tragedy, and wished strength for Mr Schuster’s family and relatives at a “difficult” time.

Louis van Gaal’s side just came off a disastrous result in the league last weekend, losing 3-0 to Arsenal.

Germany boss Joachim Low enjoys an embarrassment of riches in his pool of midfielders with Manchester United man Schweinsteiger potentially lining up alongside the likes of Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller. The Germany manager, however, admitted that Schweinsteiger will remain with the Die Mannschaft and continue his recovery. “The medical staff said two or three days rest”. He will stay with us and we will see, what is possible. But it does not look like he can play.
