Schweinsteiger won’t give up his Man Utd dream

“I haven’t played a game yet (this season), so I don’t know how the lungs will hold up”.

After Rashford made a remarkable breakthrough for club and country last season, this term has seen him left out of United’s starting line-up by new manager Jose Mourinho and fail to make Sam Allardyce’s first England squad, with the 18-year-old striker instead being included in the Under-21s.

“We’ve got to wait and see how things go in September and October, but there is respect between us and that’s important for me”.

United’s willingness to let Schweinsteiger join Sporting at zero cost reflects an urgency to move him out of the club before the summer window closes tomorrow.

Former England captain Alan Shearer has encouraged Wayne Rooney to retire from worldwide football.

“Marcus is a fantastic player, one of the brightest talents in European football”.

“Well, I have the youngest player ever to score a goal in a Champions League final”, he said, as quoted by ESPN.

“I don’t say this in the belief that he is no longer good enough for England – he is”.

“I think up to my suspension past year, things were going well for me, then I had two unfortunate injuries”.

Speaking ahead of Germany’s friendly with Finland, which marks Schweinsteiger’s global farewell, he said: “My absolute dream would be to play for Manchester United and to help them with their goals”.

Schweinsteiger is adamant his exile from the United first team does not represent the lowest point in a career which has been beset by injuries and the occasional setback at the highest level.

“I think that’s the big difference this year”, Rooney added.

“I don’t want to go in that direction”. So I chose to cut my England career short to avoid that day and also so I could give my best to Newcastle.
